Discuss Using low volt spots or normal in the Industrial Electricians' Talk area at ElectriciansForums.net

I am converting my attic and in the bedroom the ceiling will be flattened off and so there will be a void above that. In here i will use 2 low volt spots - simple.

However in the bathroom on the sloping ceilng i want to use one spot, but the space behind the spot will be a bit limited. I can get a spot in there, but would prefer to use a normal spot.

So is there any problem with using a larger watted bulb in this spot light and it being mains wired ?

I am thinking all is ok, but just wanted to see what others thought.

Before anyone says this, i do have a sparky doing the work for me and he isnt here for me to ask this question at the moment.

Do you mean to save transformer space?

I know you say your electrician isn't there (didn't you say this in September?) but you should really talk to him and also check manufacturers void requirements.

This is all Part P notifiable work too.

yes to save transformer space.

are you telling me how to suck eggs ?

Why have a forum for advise when all you want to do is say refer to electrician or check manufacturers advise.

you have been no help what so ever.

what is this forum for exactly ? ah yes self promotion!

my sparky was here on wed but is not here now as i type this up.

i want other opinions please. can anyone give me some info on fitting regular spots into a sloping ceiling?

You will find this forum has very little slagging off as it is well run and the regular members respect each and every person on it.

ok, so still no good answers :)

I have some feedback from another forum and using a full power spot could cause too much heat, so best not to use those then. also i may create a thermal bridge between the room and outside and this could lead to condensation - especially in the bathroom.

These have been most helpful because i will now do away with this spot and just use the wall light and the light position on the lower purlin.

Does anyone see how you have all totally failed to understand what this forum is about.

Glad you got the advice you were looking for.
