got a text from a landlord i do work for and he tells me do i know any plumbers!!

any way i offer to go have a look as hes a nice chap and find a pipe hanging off..

its teh overflow from bath going to the U Bend waste!

i have re glued it with plastic PVC glue and also tie wrapped the little **** in place!!

what would a plumber charge???

I would think your usual call out.

Just because a plumber would tear him a new one, doesnt mean you have to.

im only hitting him for £35 but just curious!!??

as it happens i was eating tea at parents house which is located less than 5 mins drive and it was on way home!! :) sweet! only there 15 mins!

Would you have charged £35 for a small electrical job that took the same time, Steve?

Most plumbers I have dealt with charge £75 call out - but they are typically 24hr emergency types

tbh £35 is a decent enough call out for the time scale and also i would consider what work comes my way from him etc. keep the good ones happy and they don`t have to go through the phone book. I have a guy who i look after some pubs and clubs for and his call out one sunday night for an rcd tripping was free of charge, i don`t do that for anyone but the guy had given me 4 months work solid before and after. so a little 20 min drive was nothing.

he passes me ALOT of work!!! :) every tenant gets a new PIR or visual inspection and its also ALL minor works regardless of trade!!

Yep, you can't put a price on a repeat customer. You've got to keep them happy.

That's it precisely, screw a few quid on a callout or have a customer for life who also lets his circle know about you etc. etc. that's called building a business and it always works if you can be patient enough in the early days.

Just a thought wonder what the replies would be if a plumber came on and asked what an electrician would charge having just been on a plumbing job and have been asked if I knew any electricians ...........But I just pushed the wires back in and put a bit of tape on. I did it because he's a good customer and am just gonna charge him 35 quid ...Just because an Electrician would tear him a new one (JasonS).............One rule for some springs to mind

Fair point, however, I think we can all agree that not even a "master" plumber would have done anything different in this particular case. If it had been a gas pipe, that'd be different.

That said, if Durham had posted it in the plumbing forum I think we'd be able to see the flames from here!

absolutely brilliant!!

They started out all "grrr you should have replaced the waste"
and finished up all "It'll be reeet"

good laugh Durham

I like the way they all missed the fact that you said the RCD tripped, didn't occur to any of them that water was getting in the electrics, so all power was lost. And fancy you not carrying around a load of plumbing spares when you go on an emergency callout at 10pm for £35!

apart from them me wanting to rip out a perfectly good waste and replace just like they would!!! shocking!

like saying to a customer every time a MCB trips OHHH that RCD needs replacing as well its 2 year old!!
