I've an electronics degree which was some years ago & and IT degree so I think I'm more than qualified to know what I'm doing!

The builder has already notified BCO and they have attended site once already.
Your degrees are admirable, but not overly relevant to installation work. Do you have a good working knowledge of the current wiring regulations and associated building regulations?
Just because you are not touching the earthing it doesn’t make it irrelevant. The earthing and bonding must be checked and tested for you to comply with the regulations and you will surely have needed the test results in your cable calculations for the new circuits?
