posted some questions ref a thermostat the other day.

Just been given the replacement one by a plumber friend................!

looked at the wiring diagram, live and neutral in im ok with.
L1 = live feed to item to be controlled, ie the boiler
L2 = changeover contact??????
Lx = common???????

will the cables be labelled L1, L2 & Lx at the boiler end so i can identify correct cables?

stat is a boss therm.

thats 5 terminals in all at stat, i dont know how many wires are or were controlling old stat as it has been removed, so only cables, unsure how many just hanging out of wall. any pointer would be appreciated.

im going there on sat to have a look.:confused:
:D

looks like a trial and error job. 3 possibilities 1. it works. 2 . it don't work. 3. it goes bang.

do you know what model number? i dont bother with hard wired anymore unless its newbuild,just fit wireless ones now.

boss therm brtrf and br1

im just unsure about the L1 Lx and L2 terminals.

i believe that they may have joined the L1 & L2 together to bypass the old stat, but unsure until i actually see it?

Yes normally put adjacent to boiler,uk pablo a lot of these newer stats dont require a neutral so might just need common to Lx and switch live to boiler on L1,but a model number would be handy.

What is the exisitng set up,combi? what controls are already in place.cant find a diagram for that unit

dont know mate...........going in blind, just like sat nights used to be!!!!!!
i have not even been to job or even seen it yet, it is a favour to my plumber mate who is going away.
im sure i will suss it out, just don't want to blow stat if i can help it!!!!!
Thanks for all your input, i have wiring diagram with new stat, just dont know what wiring is at job????
On the job learning again me thinks!!

if its combi,fit reciever close to boiler,5 core into it,fused spur 3 core to supply boiler,so pair up browns,blues(this is supply to boiler)g/y,inside the boiler there will be a link for the central heating between say 1 and 2,this is a common 240v link to the switched live which fires the boiler heating side of things,when link removed htg will not fire,so reciever 5 core black would go to 1 and grey would go to 2,inside the reciever(im guessing on that model) you should have l-n-e, common(black inside boiler) call for heat(grey in boiler)make sense?
just make sure that it is 240v switching and not volt free contacts(then there might well be a bang lol),fit stat part in hallway or wherever the rad with 2 lockshields is fitted.
