As above, can anyone recommend a make/model of metal housing to accommodate only an rcd? I'm guessing too, that these will require a metal cover if used in a domestic setting?

Yeah, that's what I want to avoid! I do a fair bit of work in rentals, where lots of showers have no rcd protection, hence the enquiry.

The OP asked for a metal RCD enclosure not a CU! lol

Well true, but if this enclosure did not need to meet the same standards or satisfy the same regulation as CUs, he could just use a plastic one.
I was assuming this fell under the "similar switchgear" part of the regulation hence the question.

and if he's adding to an existing install then fit an insulated one!

Yeah, I was posing the question for two reasons. My understanding is that, in the situation I described above ( fitting an rcd to an existing circuit), then the rcd enclosure had to be metal, with cover. On this basis, also wanted recommendations for a suitable unit.
i can't see how a plastic/ insulated one complies ( unless others can point to other info).

most scheme providers would beg to differ.
Tend to agree, and with BS7671 being a bit vague on 'similar switchgear', who else can you ask for advice, unless you think you know better. Carry on installing stuff regardless, might make you look a bit wanting if the authors of BS7671 confirm what the schemes are suggesting.
