Hi,

I have a Comenda dishwasher and its 415 volts. Can I wire this up at home? Does it have to have a special power supply?

Sorry not an electrician so it probably sounds like a really stupid question, but thought I would ask

thanks!

The simple and straight answer is no.

If it’s 415 3 phase it can be done but not without a lot of trouble and expense. 415 single phase and you’re in with a chance with a transformer and not quite as expensive this time.

This question begs another question, why on earth did you get it?

Hi thanks for that. We used to have a business where we used it, our one broke down and I wanted to know if I could wire it in as Im bored of washing up by hand

some can be converted to single phase, but how exactly would be hard to say every model and make has a different way of doing so, but it would still need a big single phase supply

If the controls and the pump are 230v single phase you might be able to disconnect two of the elements and run it on a single phase domestic supply but it'sa long shot. All the lights in your nieghbourhood might also go dim when you do your dishes. :) My advice would be sell it for what you can get on ebay or in local classified ads and just buy a domestic dishwasher with the proceeds.

Without knowing the model number it is possible, as has been said, to run it off a single phase supply. Last one I worked on needed a 32a supply and only used two of the three heating elements. Had links inside to pair supplies together

Absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gave me right laff, nearly fell off the chair.
Its not your fault, always ask the right people. Then you dont blow the world up.
Brightened my night up.

We sometimes fit these in commercial kitchens etc and they can normally run dual voltage its just a matter of moving some links in the back but I really wouldn`t bother as the lights in the neighbourhood will all go dim. Best bet is to flog it and buy the missus a big bunch of flowers to do the washing up and a crate of beer with whats left.

I used to work in the commercial dishwasher industry for a couple of German manufacturers. Pretty much every free standing machine I worked on or installed had the capability to be converted to single phase supply, and also generally come with the ability to choose your supply amperage. Only the larger 'Flight' and 'Rack Transport' machines required 3 phase due to the larger wash pumps they use. What you will lose by doing this, is the recovery time between washes, meaning that the rinse boiler will take longer to heat, which will extend the wash times, but won't dim any lights!!. As mentioned previously, you normally remove links at the main supply connection within the machine. Hope that helps :)

some domestic cookers are dual 1 phase or 3 phase, and just have links in the terminal strip. you need to find out the rating first . it will be stamped on a label as watts or Kwatts. then might be an idea to contact the manufacturer.
