This is my first post on the Forum and I have a question regarding concealing unused sockets. The house I am working in is having a new kichen installed. The existing kichen sockets are part of the single house ring (1978 4 bed detatched). Additional kichen appliances will be installed so I want to take the oppertunity to reduce the load on the ring by wiring new ktchen sockets on a 4mm radial and cease using the existing sockets.

I don't want to replace the wiring on the existing ring sockets so I propose to join the cables and in some way conceal where the sockets have been. I have considered using Wagobox junction boxes and plastering over them but would appreciate any suggestions or thoughts on this.

Hello, I think you are right to take the opportunity to separate the kitchen onto new ring, but if it were me I wouldn't leave the old wire and sockets in I would try and find the 2 legs of the ring and connect together leaving kitchen totally isolated and avoiding any potential problems.

Hello Oldsparky,

Welcome aboard.

I'm with Johno on this; strip back the legs to the sockets in the next room re-instating the ring between these sockets

you could lift the legs up above the kitchen cupboards and isolate/convert into patress and blank plate if as stated option is not an option

its gotta come out mate really- you would be leaving live wires in a wall with no clue that they were there, i.e a socket or something and therfore you would have no defence when someone gets hurt by hitting in a nail, as it wouldnt be possible for the customer to work out from the wiring zones where NOT to put a screw/ nail in etc. not viewed all the posts but take the wires out of circuit then just fill with plaster.

Quite right, the old ring wiring has got to be removed, what was I thinking? It's the only safe way to do it. Thanks for all the replies.
