Is the correct method for testing the continuity of the main bonding conductors with a long flying lead from the tester to the other end of the cable?

r2 is the earth path, with r1 being the resistance of the phase conductor.
with main bonding only the r2 is present

I think he wants to know why earth is called R2? not what is the R2?

The simple answer is because it is. Why is the phase conductor called R1?
I think it's because of the test that gets done ie. R1+ R2 which is your earth fault loop impedence test. If your circuit has a fault then the fault current travels down the cpc, which is what it's designed to do. You're therefore testing the impedance (resistance) of the phase conductor and cpc. hence R1 + R2.

I hope that makes cos it doesn't make sense to me.....:D

R2 Yes it makes sense when used in the earth loop impedance terminology.

But to call it R2 when refering to the individual conductor can confuse.
