My first post, hello all from Sweden. So I'm thinking of buying a Optical Power Meter but the LCD looks dim (second hand) from what I understand it could be a problem with dirty connectors. I don't want to buy them and find out it's a bigger problem so I'm hoping you guys could point me in the right direction.

There's no back light and the LCD is the same as what you find on multi meters. I've posted a picture if that help.

Any feedback will be much appreciated

It can sometimes be the elastomeric connector (zebra) strip between the PCB and LCD, either out of position (easy fix) or misshapen (harder), but could also be LCD damage due to heat etc.

Thanks for the reply. I'm hoping it is the elastomer connector, heat damage will obviously be a major problem.

are they ok then? have you tried replacing them?

Hi again
Lucien. Can I ask you something let's say it does have heat damage, is there anyway that you know of that can fix such a problem?.

I can't find much info on the net, it might also be the inverter from what I've been reading.

Just stumbled on this thread. My ( limited ) experience of portable devices that use batteries and have LCD displays, is that there is often a dimming problem with the display if you are using rechargeable batteries ( eg AA @ 1.2v per battery ) instead of alkaline ( 1.5v per battery ). This problem is often worsened in cold/damp conditions.

Hi, yes it seems like it could be many things. Even the pictures taken off the devices vary. I have not actually purchased theses yet so It's going to be a punt, hopefully it's just a simple problem (like bad battery's) thanks for the info
