Discuss do I need a rectifier!? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Glad you got it sorted out. I'd be interested to see a picture or two of this thing in action if you're up for attaching a couple. I've seen some things in my time but never a glittering machine ;)

How do you think the coating is put on southern fried chips, etc? The vibrating feeder has no motor as a motor will fall apart.

Had you not deleted my question on the effects of vibration on a DC motor we may have had a better solution.

Find out the maker of the motor and get the data, if this motor is running on an industrial basis, there will be problems with either an unmatched power supply circuit or motors burning out. Is there provision for soft start or is it direct on line, what is the weight and inertia of the spreading equipment attached to the motor. You must take start and running current readings with full and empty load, also rpm readings under full load. What is the diameter of the motor shaft and how is it mechanically connected to the spreading equipment, will the motor bearings take the strain. Etc, etc etc

A quick trip to the local sex emporium could quickly solve this problem if simple vibration is all that’s needed.
(Use your imagination.)

The required vibration will be minute as the feed product is so light. A lot of attention has to be given to feed table distribution, the reason I mentioned coating southern fried chips.

He could read Vibration and Waves, by A. P. French, paying attention to chapter 4.

I think we are talking of something of very low power requirements. Not a large drive for feeding tons per hour. If it was a large drive something akin to an Invictor motor or hydraulic pump and vibrating head would be ideal.

An AC coil (some use AC with DC injection) mounted correctly can give very controllable and consistent feed rates and employs no moving parts. Depending on the mounting of the coil an even product distribution can also be achieved. To design a system like this requires some knowledge in electrical, mechanical and product control principals.

If this company is making products for the likes of Tesco’s their quality control is stringent. Fail to meet the requirements and they will reject the product out of hand.
Rejection = no payment.

God help them if M&S order anything.

Well prior to the frabrifators whacky ideas they used to do the glittering by hand with a siv... So it will be trial and error with regards to the amount of glitter needed sprinkled over the plants

But that does sound like a good alternative tony as I have said my conercns with regards how long the motors will last.apprently there cheap so doesn't matter lol

As far as i know plants are there to grow and be food for herbivores. If i were a herbivore, i'd not be happy with glitter all over my lunch. :49:

I can't imagine them using Locker feeders on chip flavourings, but I guess it's something similar?
