Hi guys, 2 quick points. What would any of you charge for installing a single downlighter, providing the wiring and choc box only and holes to be cut out. I've been asked to price for 27 and give a unit price. Secondly if a 50w lamp is used for low and mains voltage downlighters, why use one over the other?

i would not give a unit price, just as price for the 27. you would use 230v downlighters if you don't want call-outs to gossed transformers. some say that the light from the 12v units is better though.

well depends on what access you have todo the work , do you have to lift floorboards avove , do you have to work from below ,few things to consider. how they gonna be switched/dimmer and where from. cable is 35 squid a roll chick boxes 1 each roughly....

as for 12v too 230v id go for 230v and do they need to be fire rated

and remember if you get this job what breaker sizes you gonna use as these lamps have inrush currents which limit you in some way....

I agree give a price for doing the lot. I tend to use LV over gu10 as 47% more output, lamp life is a lot longer and the lamps to replace are 75% cheaper. If you buy transformers for less than £4 a pop your getting a callback.

it's not often you find GU10 lampholder and pins burnt out. can't say the same for 12v though.

I am iclined now to try and give the client the option of led light fittings, long life, not as bright but big savings on leccy bills, and lamps not going pop every other week, save the polar bears etc part L etc.Remember how much lcds and plasmas were serveral years ago compared to now,led lighting should in effect follow suit, well like to hope thats the case.I done a rewire last year,104 downlights(every room had the things).I have done a quote for a client, for 60 downlights(leds),maybe give them the options of usual fittings(more expensive to run and maintain) or leds(the exact opposite).
