I would still be making a fuss in the Mercedes show room when others prospective buyers are there, if nothing else you may get piece of mind, I suppose the lesson is don't buy a Merc.
 
I had the bp Chargemaster electrician again today, this time he tried the untethered version of the charger, same issue, then he connected the charger directly to my electricity, bypassing the fuse board and it works fine now! - so I had no idea what the issue was but it’s working now.

any ideas guy what might have been the issue?

Can you post a pic of how exactly he has bypassed the fuseboard

I have removed 2 customers didn't want them afterwards to sale. I kept the leads and plugs as spares or for upgrading other customers type 1 chargers to type 2. Nobody wanted the whole unit on eBay as it's so bad. We have had issues of junkies cutting the leads off chargers around here. No doubt to flog as they can fetch £100 online. Replaced 3 in the last year.
