OK so with everybodys help on this forum I have now come to the conclusion that to progress my career as an electrician, I need to get an NVQ L3 C&G 2356.

but how do i go about getting that? do I need to get an employer, then go go to a college and get signed up with an NVQ assessor?

and does the NVQ have to be completed all at the same place? reason i ask is I see alot of temporary 4-6 week jobs available, and not so many permanent ones.

and again here is a bit about me and a list of my quals which might help:

I'm 25, and have just left the Army after spending 7.5 years in there as a royal signals electrician. straight after school I started an electrical apprenticeship, but only did 11 months there and left. in the army the job i did was not very electrical really, it was mostly generator maintenance and erecting tempory power and lighting systems. The only electrical installation experiance i have is from my apprenticeship, and a Domestic installation course i did this year. and here are all the electrical qualifications i have:

 • ·City&Guilds 2391-10 Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations
 • ·City&Guilds 2377-11 Management of Electrical Equipment Maintenance
 • ·City&Guilds 2377-12 Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment
 • ·City&Guilds 2382-10 17th Edition Wiring Regulations
 • ·City&Guilds 2149-02 Engineering Systems Maintenance part 2
 • ·City&Guilds 2149-03 Engineering Systems Maintenance part 3
 • ·City&Guilds 2019-01 Basic Engineering Competences(Electrical Engineering)
 • ·EAL Level 2 Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers incorporating Part P

thanks

have a chat with the training provider mate as some ev`s want that bit more than others and some of the quals you have may entitle them to claim it for you. you do normally need the 2330 as it is the tech cert. with your quals it shows you have the knowledge required but like i say have a chat mate but don`t leave it long as you may know they are doing away with it shortly

2356 the nvq, and the 2330, they are combining it into the 2357, so it is split in two. there is a place on line that does it for 550 which is really good value. I have just contacted someone for you I will let you know tomorrow.

even with the nvq jib would prob not issue a card without 2330, they just returned my application again as i never included level 2 cert - muppets.

With his maintenance quals though they may issue an "electricians" card with maintenance electrician as his main discipline rather than installation electrician.

online or PM, please

P.S. Is it 2356 or 2357?

2356, i have sent you a pm with the link on it. i believe a couple of lads have used them on here, but i am in no way endorsing them as i have not had anything to do with them. let me know if you need any advice
