Can anyone remember those dreadful ceiling roses in the 1970’s,think they were Volex, they had loose connectors, which then had to be pushed into a slot on the base,awful.
Trying to get pics but not found any yet,they also had batten holders like it.

I remember some that were slightly smaller than what we have now, with a separate ring against the ceiling, but I think the terminals were fixed into the plastic....
Oh, and the old brown ones, tiny. With a braided twisted flex down to the lamp holder.

The ones with the loose choc block were far better that the earlier ones with terminals fixed into the base, at least you could work on them without breaking your neck then push the block back up into the base.

In another 20 or 30 years it's quite possible people will say anyone remember those dreadfull spring loaded ones, possibly called Wagos, everyone raved about them, used them everywhere, then they started failing and millions of then had to be replaced.

Bit like metal fuseboxes, who on earth thought that was a good idea?

Loads of those wylex boxes had to be replaced, the fuse would blow, the plasma jet would shoot out of the ceramic tube in the holder and start an arc between the metal case and busbar end of the wylex fuse, so the main dno fuse would trip!

Metal fuseboxes, - glad to see the back of them, much better now with the safer plastic consumer units.

Ashley made those. I have one in the room I'm in, somewhere.
My favourites are the deep Crabtree ceramic roses, with the burgundy twisted flex.

Remember the clip on cover roses which had spring terminals to connect the cover and flex to the back plate. If I see them on a periodic I hardly ever remove them as years of paint stops them clicking back on.

I've used these Lewden roses in the past, and will surely use them again in the future. As Tel said in his post, the design is brilliant. Great for suspending small chandeliers of up to 5kg in weight.

They come in chrome and a brass finish too.

Lewden 'maestro' ceiling rose, I tried to get one a little while ago and couldn't get hold of one.
They used to be white, brass, chrome and possibly black

CEF have them in white (MB11E) and chrome (MC11C), but not brass it seems.

These are still about fitted a few in a lighting display in a shop for ease of removing
