The above has gone phut in the meantime I have wago'd the coax and I get not a bad reception on most but not all channels, I have a powered booster inside so is that helping and is the replacement going to have to be the exact same, it is a vision 24Db V20-102 I cant see a direct replacement on the web so can I use summat else I have a complete aversion to all things AV etc so I need help

You should only need one booster for your signal, so you may find that if you just fit a shielded junction in place of the masthead you should have decent reception.

Otherwise if you signal is still weak (worth checking signal strength indication on your TV for each channel as you may have a strong but low quality signal which boosting will make worse) then you can use any type of masthead amp stick with the 24Db if you can but if you get one with variable gain then you can arrange the signal strength to suit.
