New to the job, new to the site

Hey everyone
I've recently got my course C qualifications after completing my level 2 and 3 quals a year or so ago. I'm in the royal engineers, we've been told we have a fairly good rep on civvy street, however we think differently. We get qualified but have virtually no experience. Would be interested to hear what all of the old and bold think about it?

mate welcome, im a sparky that like all, took my qualifications, then went out and got my self a job. College is good it teaches you the basics, but you only get experience from getting out there and getting dirty.

No one is expecting you to know everything, just get out there and take any advise that is given you, learn some tricks and then the confidence comes.

You never know you might enjoy it, lol. ask questions in here these boys know alot, then go out and cause some sparks....joke!

Im also an ex Sapper mate, and also had the misfortune of living in Collingwoid whilst doing my A2.
I was MD'd before doing my AM2 so left with nothing. I gained experience quickly and I got myself on jobs that I had no experience in do that I could learn.
5 years after leaving the army, I'm now an approved spark being sponsored to do a HNC in electrical engineering.
I would say that you have a good chance of succeeding, but start off as a mate to learn the practical skills properly. You will pick it up quickly, you wouldn't be a Sapper if you couldn't learn quickly.

Wow, I honestly didn't think any military sparkies ever bothered doing their trade outside of the army.
I haven't left yet but I'm trying to get as much experience under my belt as possible. I'm actually looking at re-doing the wiring in my new house. It's very old and not in good condition. I'm gonna start off slow and replace the Db then look to redoing all the wiring but just don't know where to start. So everyone's advice is to do some work as a mate first.
