Hi,
I am a retired electrical engineer but know little about home security systems. I have to remove or replace aged OPTEX FX-360 PIRs connected to a TS510 domestic intruder alarm control unit. As far as I can gather, each PIR has a 4-wire connection to a particular zone input on the control unit. Each PIR has a 12v DC supply and a loop connection. The loop is normally closed and an alarm is triggered when the loop is broken. There is also a tamper alarm within the PIR which is triggered when the cover is removed.

Is the above description correct?

I have the engineers code, so presumably I can use it to prevent the alarm sounding and then remove/replace the PIR wire for wire. Where a PIR is to be removed from the system, the relevant zone input to the control panel should be looped out to close the circuit.

Again, does all that sound correct?

I am amazed that in this fast-changing world the FX-360 PIR is still available. Those that I am replacing are about 25 years old!

Comments appreciated.

you are correct in the above, unless the zones are configured for eol resistors, in which case, the resistors should remain if a detector is removed.
