I'm going to be running a small circuit this week to power so heftyish servers, all surface, 32A, not decided until I look at the job if ring or 4mm Radial with extra CPC, now I am concerned about putting these on an RCBO as they can be leaky, so am considering using the 'Skilled or instructed persons' clause in the regs, marking the sockets accordingly and naming those people so instructed in an email to the boss, to cover my ---, anyone wired up IT suites ? what did you run with ?

I would tend to agree with you, Guess the servers are likely to have UPS anyway but as long as the cable routing is surface and has some kind of supplimentary machanical protection I would think it would not need rcd protection in my view and can be justified on the EIC.

Cheers for the input, have I missed something in the regs tho ? the socket and circuit if embedded in the fabric of a building, can be ommitted for RCD protection if the sockets and work on the fabric of the building are under skilled or instructed persons, so you could embed or clip direct no extra protection needed. BTW this isn't a clause I would use to circumvent the need for RCD's only for specifics like this one

Sorry could not be bothered to type the less than 50mm blah, blah
From what your saying its to be a dedicated high integrity circuit that is to be used by instructed persons only.
reason i say surface is no likelyhood of it getting damaged.

average on a pc is 3mA. you can measure with an earth leakage clamp meter.and i agree with the "skilled or instructed persons, no RCD"

Cheers can you give me a bit more info please ? I think I have nearly every bit of kit except the Earth Electrode meters, an Earth Leakage clamp meter is a completely different bit of kit to a normal clamp meter ? It seems the regs say 3.5mA is the upper limit for a plug top after 10mA other regs apply.
