Hi Guys

A customer wants to replace a class 2 fitting with a class 1 the lighting circuit does not have a CPC, I want to run a seperate 1.5mm CPC but as its less than 4mm does it need mechanical protection? And is it acceptable to only run it to the fitting in question?

Your help with this would be appreciated

Many Thanks

Not as good on the reg's as some of the guys on here but i would say yes you do need mechanical protection for 1.5mm so why not just run a 4.0mm?

As for 2nd part of question i would say yes.

If i am wrong we will know very soon!

you can clip the single earth or trunking upto the ceiling soon as you are under the upstairs floor your ok

yes. you could argue that under the floor, it's mechanically protected by the enclosure of the building fabric.

HEY TC
have you got your stuff ready for your big day tomorrow

in a real life situation, i'd be inclined to run 1.5mm. remember that BS7671 is not statutory and if you consider that 1.5mm will provide adequate fault protection, then go ahead. tin hat on.

Use 4mm, you only need to provide a cpc to that fitting as long as the rest are still class 2...
well i`d be asking what the intentions are in future as regards the other fittings.....its just that they may like that class 1 so much that they decide to start replacing these class 2s with class 1s......without upgrading the wiring to suit....

well, if the customer does that after having been told not to fit classI fittings without providing a cpc, then the darwin theory springs to my mind.

hi guys

Just one thing as stated i will run 4mm, but this cable will take a completely different route to the line & neutral at the board and at the JB by light fitting it will be obvious that its CPC but through out the rest of the run it go any where whats to stop someone else coming along and thinking its an old undersized bonding conductor and cutting it out!!
Many Thanks

Depends on route. If coming thro loft, down inside of airing cupboard tucked by architrave, then under floor to light fitting, then I'd use a bit of 1.5.
