Right this might be a really dumb question to ask, but lets be honest Scotland is a law unto itself, if you are a qualified spark in England does that transfer to Scotland or not?

aaaaaaaaaaaaa the great unanswerable question SJIB and JIB may opperate along same lines BUT grading qualifications differ slightly

As for carrying out electrical work Your a qualified electrician in the UK and assuming your competant your competance doesnt get hung on a hook @ gretna services
Although personaly I can tell if its an english firm or scottish firm that has done a job using conduit , trunking as We use lock rings English DONT another few anomilies exist but nothing major

i like to use serrated washers on glands, but often engineers dont like it, but on heavy industry sites they love it. I dont see the point of having the lockrings on boxes ect. I always make my threads the right length, and tighten it up well. On entry to switches ect, i only use flanged couplers, and a lead washer.

lockrings on all conduit connections as it garentees a secure mechanical connection. It stems back to PME days were the conduit was the CPC now more often than not there is a seperate CPC run but still in my view good practice. In case of fault there is a low resistance earth path. Along the same lines a installing a flying lead to earth down a box even though there is a solid lug for fixing. Not requiered by law but still good practice

I am not a qualified anything yet, my girlfriend wants to move to scotland, which quite frankly scares the crap out of me, I wanna know if I can train here or in scotland and move without it effecting my occupation....so it is sorta the same but not really? Why do the scottish hate being the same as us so much!?

the regs up here are exactly the same so train where you want in UK there are different names for the same thing and you may get abuse for your accent but we are a freindly bunch.

Have just moved to scotland from london. Had no problems getting my SJIB Card, plenty of work about at the minute up here too. Why don't you give it a go for 6 months and see? What part of scotland is it she wants to move to?

if you do city and guilds courses 2360, also inspection and testing 2391, these are recognised in scotland and england, select do courses in scotland too and courses are cheaper but ive did both city and guilds and select , city and guilds is better qualification as its harder to pass and more recognized everywhere
