Just called EON to find out the earthing arrangement of a commercial premises (not obvious whether TNS or TNCS). The lady didn't have a clue what I was talking about and said they could put a PME in if I wanted. I've not had to call before so am I being daft here? It is EON who should know this isn't it, as they (well, central networks) do our area. I thought they were supposed to have a record of everywhere, if they're supplying it.

The phone gave all the options, loss of supply press 1, upgraded fuse press 2 etc but none of the options were what I needed. I'm wondering if I've got the wrong number (or wrong end of the stick) here.

HELP!!!! Can't see it makes a blind bit of difference tbh, if all the readings are below the requirements for either system and everything tests ok who cares what the setup is the other side of the meter?

Just do a loop impedence test on the outer sheath of the incomer... Use TN-S if available.

I had simarlar problem, looked like it was TN-S but had been converted to TN-CS... Done a loop test with each disconnected and the TN-S offered the best earth. So I removed the CS connection and threw a 16mm on the TN-S.

Yes, they wont be able to tell you over the phone.

They will more than likely do as above....come out, do a quick test and tell you.

Your wasting your time mate I tried to call edf and got passed from pillar to post noone knew what I was on about and they said they don't hold records of what earthing system was installed. I quoted the esqcr regs and that got their backs up. Still didn't get anywhere tho. Waste of time wontbe ringing them again

ok good to know guys, thanks. You would have thought they'd have a record, it's pretty basic information! It was a quick spur we dropped in for them at the end of the day while we were there and no one was around to get access to the meter. I'm not going back just to check what the incomer looks like so will have to give them a bell, otherwise I'd put a tenner on TNCS.

Thanks again :)
