Discuss Wago's , junction boxes and choc blocks whats best with downlighters in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

find the joists, chip plaster from under joists and about 1" to each side. fish cable from one joist to another, wire up lights, clip cable to underside of joists, tub of poyfiller, bit of rag to blend to match artex if required, jobs a good'un.

Hi telectrix

yeah...sometimes its the only way. doesn't feel good though.

Last one I did there was a plasterer in on the game too so I was spoilt, I cut 76mm holes in the board with a very nice "ck" holesaw (just big enough to get hand in), either side of joist. Then use an extension bar with an Armeg wood beaver (fnarr fnarr) to drill a hole through joist...unless youre lucky like i was and found the original sparks' set of holes. Then place small battens inside when sparky work is done and screw them in place with black phospate passivated screws sunk just below the surface, replacing the original piece of circle board the hoelsaw cut out..... Looks great and no quick and dirties.

Admittedly it was a well paying job ..... OH! and I had a spread following me !!!

If no spread I guess I would do it as described :))

Just as a thought wouldn't it be best to notch joist and fit a "safe plate" over cable? Then everyone's happy

I havent used wagos before. I still use those crappy normal connector blocks. Wheres the cheapest place to get these wagos and are they any good compared to normal crappy connector blocks

you should have gone to elex they had them on special offer , if they are approved for use in air craft then they are ok for me , i shall be trying out the din rail mount ones when i do a CDU relocation , hardly ever use crimps or terminal block nowadays they are just a superb invention

has been mentioned on the forum that the ashley type screw JBs are no longer allowed for downlights. Why? the only reason i can see is that they are not fixed to a joist, but then, neither are wago boxes fixed. can't be because they're screw terms. because they are accessible. any body shed light in this?

can't remember. it was on a post somewhere. maybe the member who said it was thinking of accessibility. i can't see anything wrong with them.
