Hello all , hope you can help a confused person out :)
I have a hard wired door bell at moment and want to replace with hard wired ring pro. My current chime box has the old transformer built in i will post piccys . I have found the wiring diagram for th ring pro and just want to confirm if what i will be doing is correct , Thank you 1756687343181.jpeg1756687866465.png
So that is a picture of my current chime set up, and the image i found on ring site . I have seen so many differnt images i hope i am looking at the right one
My plan was to place the ring transformer in lower chime box , remove wires from old transformer 240v , connect in the ring transformer input and then run new wire to the old transformer terminals from ring tranformer output 24v , and then wire up as disagram says . The question i have is that on the wiring diagram it shows a neutral wire from old transformer terminal linking to the bell terminal , i am assuming i will need to add that as well ? . If so would reason be because as there would only be 24v inputting in to old transformer that any internal connection would not be working now . Just a little confused with that wire .
The rest of it seems easy enough to do . The ring instruction says to wire the transformer in the rcd panel,on rail , but cant see an issue the way i will do it . Just trying to make sure before i spend £200 on a door bell :)
Thank you for your time

Not an expert on Ring Doorbells and never installed one so if someone knows better please chip in.

I did some research and found the following

The diagram you show is a bypassed 240v Chime transformer. By that I mean the 240v mains to the chime is replaced by the 24v AC from the Ring Transformer. The Chime transformer is then not used (bypassed) by the looks of it.

The Ring item based inside the chime on that diagram is not the transformer but the Pro Power Kit (PPK)

You could do away with the need for the Ring Transformer if the chime transformer could power the ring doorbell. Some bypass the chime and power the ring only not using the chime at all. According to what I could find the D3126 does not provide an output at all though.

Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Ring Wired Video Doorbell Pro (formerly Video Doorbell Pro 2) require 16 to 24 VAC, 50/60Hz, 10VA to 40VA

So if you are going to go the diagram route you would need the Ring Transformer installed in your Consumer unit and the mains wiring must only go to the chime and nothing else.

Nothing on Ring says the chime would work or not in that set up though? I cannot see anywhere on the Ring website that says it works with the D3126 chime.

Another way to do this is to replace the chime unit with a din rail enclosure and mount the Ring Transformer in there.

Thanks for the reply . Yes i have read that the chime would not work, and someplaces it says the power kit that is installed makes the chime work . Very dependant on where i read about it . Not that worried about the chime working . I think its just all about getting the 24v to the ring bell really . The ring transformer i was going to place in the chime box as i have the room at the bottom and not in the consumer unit , Yes it looks like the old chime is just used as a set of contacts for the 24v supply. Thank you for your time

The problem with placing the Ring Transformer in the chime box is that it will not be secured. The Ring Transformer is designed to be Din Rail mounted which is why I suggested removing your existing chime and putting a Din Rail enclosure there instead.

Most, if not all the Rings I have fitted for people are the rechargeable type.
They’ve all wanted their original doorbells left working if they had one.

thats a good point, so basically just go for an easy install battery powered ring, and leave the wiring as it is, in case i wanted to revert back someday ?

I think you just need to recharge them every month or something. Just a USBc port.
Don’t lose the little blue screwdriver for taking it off the wall bracket.

And you might need a Ring chime to make a sound, unless you just use your phone.
Possibly Alexa or similar might chime for you??

Thank you ,
Have decided to go with ring doorbell plus battery , will get spare battery and use my echo show and spot for notification . I will remove wired bell button from wall ,insulate cable and place ring in its place . Thank you all for your time ,

Unless you live on a very busy street where it gets activated every few seconds and drains battery very quickly, like weekly or less as happened to client of ours.
