Hi,
I have just had my house totally rewired professionally to the 17 my electrician has not returned to do the sign off.
I am now worried that he has bodged it.
The down lighters in hallways, kitchen and bedrooms are not fire rated doo they have to be.
If they do, what would you recommend from tool station so I can get this fixed as I am fed up with the number of people I've had round saying yeah no problem to do that and by the way I never sign off my own work you pay extra for some one else to do that ??!!!!!

cheers

Have you paid him?

Do you have his scheme membership number?

Why do you think you need fire rated downlights?

downlighters don't have to be fire rated in a house of single occupancy. exception would be an integral garage ceiling. keep pestering the spark to do the paperwork.

You don't ask people down the pub to do your work do you?

Seriously though if you want a sparks who can sign off the work look here. Or put your location on here as there may be someone on here close to where you are who could help you out.

But scheme members can't sign off other peoples work can they?

Looks like a bit of a contradiction there!

Rictea, looks like you need help mate from properly qualified and experienced people who have a conscience. Post up your rough location one of us will be near you

No but a EICR always seems to satisfy LABC.
And there's the loophole for the unregistered/unqualified/uncaring. They throw a load of stuff in a house, don't cert it, homeowner then tries to sell gets original "installer" in to do EICR, LABC's happy jobs a goodun.
You couldn't make it up could you

There's always another side to a story. Just so that we can make an assessment.

1/ You say he rewired your house professionally. How do you know it was a professional job?
2/ Have you paid him yet?
3/ How do you know that he's bodged it?
4/ Has somebody said to you that the job could have been done cheaper
5/ or from your friends opinion, that it hasn't been done to a professional standard?

Many sparks withhold certificates when there is a chance of non-payment as a leaver and then proceed down the small claims route.

As above, I used to do this a lot with builders, it was stipulated in the term, no final payment, no certs.
