hi, we have just set up a posh house with sonos and an atlona 8 way hdmi splitter. there are 2 sky boxes attached to the splitter. the remote control signals are transmitted back to the atlona from any of the tv's using ir emitter/receivers. currently both sky boxes react to any command from the sky remotes. is it possible to split the sky remote signals so that each box acts independently to the remotes. ie so if the customer changes the sky channel on the lounge tv, it doesnt swap the channel of the second sky box?

any recommendations for a remote control to replace several remotes at once

and finally what's the best way to connect the sonos to the hdmi splitter

thanks in advance

The sky infra red protocol is generic (it's not paired with a receiver) so the only way you can enable individual control is by physically shielding of the two boxes from one another and providing two remote infra red systems.

I've no experience with the other kit so could only advise by looking them up on the web (which you can do). Maybe mydigitalhome or another member can advise on them.

Not sure why you would want to connect sonos to HDMI matrix ??As for the sky problem, you will need IR routing. We install URC remote controls that take care of all that for you.

Then he would not need 2sky boxes and be trying to connect a sonos music system to it? I could be wrong we could do with knowing the model number and what the rest of system is/trying to be!

the sonos has 10 zoneplayers, 2 bridges, 2 docks, one controller and is wired into a router

the hdmi splitter is an atlona - Atlona HDBaseT 8 by 8 HDMI Matrix Switcher over CAT5e/6/7 - Atlona.co.uk
inputs to the splitter via hdmi cables are 2 x sky, 1 blu ray, 1 x dvd, 1 x bose lifestyle 48
outputs to 5 new 3D samsung all singing tv's
the bose surround sound system is linked directly to main screen via hdmi cable
all other tv's are linked to the matrix via cat6 cable and cat 6/hdmi converters

client originally wanted a nuvo system, but was talked into a sonos by a useless rep. after we went on a nuvo installers course.

we were told by the rep that the system would cover all clients needs, is easy to set up and his mate was an expert.
all the gear turned up 3 weeks late, the day before client moves in. his mate fitted one once, about ten years ago. luckily tech support were very helpful

it took two days to set up
problems were - 444kb/s broad band as new line still on stabilization period (BT), all sonos gear needed updating before it could be used despite first tech guy telling us it didn't and we were doing it wrong.
bose lifestyle has awesome sound, but is only dvd, so needed to play blu ray audio through 5.1 and be available through the matrix. sorted this via optical cable, but when audio from the blu ray source is silent the optical signal drops off temporarily. also the user needs 4 controllers, tv, matrix, bose and blu ray to control. should be able to fix this with a good URC remote or a Phillips pronto

client has 2 young kids and is moving into new home from 2 previous ones so house is hectic to say the least. thankfully they have been fantastic
last few days have been stressful and slightly embarrassing, last thing they need at any time of year, but satisfying when it all worked.
just need to sort the sky remote issue, blu ray audio dropping out, link the matrix to the sonos AND teach the client how to use all his new tech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

merry christmas

Ok well Philips pronto are no more so it will have to be URC.
So the sonos needs to play audio from the matrix or feed audio to matrix?

Hi,
Newbie to this forum and have been enlightened by a lot of the posts in the other threads that I have viewed / read.
However I have a question which I hope someone can help me with:)
We have Sky HD coming in to the lounge feeding tv and as i'm in the middle of re-decorating have decided to add another 2 outlet plates,
the question is, do I need a 6 way F splitter to relay the signal to all three outlets? (enabling the missus to change the layout of the room without messy cables all over the place).
Thanks in advance
Dipzy

Hi Dipzy, could you tell me what you currently have coming through wall or on the wall that supplies you sky hd box.. The spliter amp thing you suggested would not be suitable for what you require. As to what you have supplying your HD box depends on which route you can take. What you are trying to achieve is possible in many ways depending on your costs.

Hi Simlec,
We have one sky hd cable coming in. What I would like to do is:
connect the incoming to the wall outlet and then connect to the other 2 outlets from the main, looking for a junction box scenario, enabling us to move the tv to one of 3 positions in the room, my wife and teenagers like to change the layout of the room.
Thanks for your replies and if you can offer any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Regards
Dipzy

If I were in your situation there is 2 half decent choices (there are probably more out there) and I would personally go for option 1.

1, Change the LNB on the dish with one with 8 outlets like this and run a pair to to each point in the room (for watch and recording).
2, I have used this distributor in the past for different rooms and using magic eye.

Hi Mark,
Happy New Year. Thanks for the suggestions I will look further into both but at the moment I think the first option looks favourable.
Will let you know how it goes.

Dipzy

From what you have said and not seeing your setup, for a cheap solution I would suggest the following.

At the two new sky box positions I would install a 1gang box (surface or flush) with a 2gang modular outlet plate with 2 F plug outlets.

F plug outlet.JPG
Then at the point of entry of your sky cable install a 2gang box with a 4gang modular outlet plate with 4 F plug outlets.
4gang outlet plate.JPG

Connect one pair of coax cables from the 4gang plate to the one new position and a second pair of coax cables from the 4gang plate to the second new position. If your coax cable comming through the wall was installed by sky then chances are it is what's called a shot-gun coax cable, two coax cables effectively stuck together. You can purchase shot-gun coax or use single coax to your new outlet plates, but remember that if you use single coax you will have to run two cables to each box, where as the shot-gun coax will only need one run to each box. When above done all you will need to do is connect your sky cables that come through the wall to pair A or B on your 4gang plate and then your new position A or B as it were will be connected to your LNB. Then at that position simply make a small connecting lead from your sky box to your 2gang wall plate. If you need to move sky box to position B then simply swap over to the other pair in your 4gang plate.

Hope this makes some sense.

All above equipment can be purchases from "cpc" online.

Hi Simlec,

Thanks for your reply and suggestion.

This is what I was thinking of originally when I ran the shotgun cable to the 3 outlets, but wasn't aware about the modular 4 gang outlet. This is perfect for what I require, do they come in brushed aluminium, to fit in with existing socket outlets? I will have a look on the web as well.

Dipzy
