hi everyone.

I'm resitting my am2 in a couple of days for the install and I&T. I failed my install last time because my ring was incorrect. I was told sometimes the assessor will un-do a cable and you are supposed to check it...(is this true) and that may of failed me. I know this is a very basic question but can someone confirm that my ring is correct in the picture below as I'm pulling my hair out wondering how ive done something so simple wrong. I used the correct cable 2.5mm x 1.5mm cpc singles so I know that's right. from memory I think it looks like this:

finally could anyone shed any light on weather having the sliders over on the 3 phase board while doing dead tests makes any difference..

many thanks.

your correct that is a ring circuit with a spur of it.
has for dead testing .a lock for isolator . put the key in your pocket .

Hi mate for some reason I'm pretty sure when I did mine, the fused spur had no load from it and the socket is spurred from the supply side or from another socket. Few years since I did mine, can anyone else clarify this ?

Then why would the spur have a switch on it? Seems pointless to randomly put a switched spur on a ring if it's not controlling a spured socket.

From what I remember the spur is an outside socket, the switch spur allows for double pole isolation.

The switched spur is a normal indoor domestic one. The Socket at the bottom is IP rated which I assume comes off the load from the spur?
Why would the ring need double isolation?

Ino I'm thinking that myself but Im sure there was something like that, id ask the question, like you said you failed it and you're not sure why, could be something straight forward, cant you ask your Tutor, or any other colleagues that have passed recently before you do it again?

I think in your am2 you have to use 2.5cpc also, and don't forget then don't let you cut and lug your earth bonding the cable has to be continuous , even though it states no where in the regs that this has to be done

Hello Johnathan85.
I am going to sit the am2 in a month and I am not sure about the DOL starter. Do you have to wire the whole thing or is there something wired for you? Another thing is do you have to calculate and set the overload protection?
Thanks

Normally is just the supply wiring you do. You won't have to set the overloads or anything else to do with the motor.
