I recently bought a house. I start to first fix and realise it has concrete walls which are a struggle so I decided I am going to clip direct and board the walls. But is there an easy way to chase concrete walls.

Priced a job in SOHO years ago, after a lot of bargaining(needed the work), got the job, monday morning started to bang the walls and bolsters, chisels etc just bounced off, needed industrial size chasers, kangos, extra bodies, more hours in the day,etc....

And the place was top(3rd)floor,with no lifts..

Never again..Hope it helps!!!

Hi lukeallen88,

You can buy a chaser / slotter and I have seen some cheap ones from time to time in Lidls with a three year or so guarantee. However I will happily agree with the comments already made that you dont want to compromise the wall by cutting huge chunks out of it, if indeed that would be the case. Its probably fair to say that this would still be noisy, messy and time consuming job.

I guess what you are looking at doing is sensible, if its going to be boarded out (daub and dab etc?) then this would probably be the easiest in less elbow work. The finsihing would be the key and also RCD protection etc for compliance.

Good luck,

Best wishes,

Rex

I understand about compromising the integrity etc, but surely this would be no different if the flats where brick or block built?

The integrity of concrete walls depends on uniform thickness and complete runs of steel re-inforcement bars. Whether chasing is a good idea depends on the original thickness of the concrete wall and whether you chase deep enough to encounter steel bars. Brick or block can better take chunks being knocked out of them and still maintain sufficient structural integrity to perform their function. And they make less mess and take a lot less effort. I would second the board + RCD suggestion.

Mini trunking and surface boxes lol if its BISON I personaly wouldnt even think about it Old Site poured concrete cast houses have outide walls dot n dabbed but its a right pain in the but getting a fixing drill to hard n it crumbles away Good luck

Thanks for all your help been in there all day today decided to surface mount my back boxes and clip direct and board every wall with a back box on. All circuits on RCD split load board.
