Converting T8 luminaires to T5

Any one used the 'saveiteasy' or the 'tubesaver' convertors to convert t8 luminaires so they can use t5 lamps. Do you recommend one over the other? Did you still disconnect any of the old circuitry in the lamps such as the capacitor? Do you recommend the HO or HE versions of the T5. Any advice welcome....

Why would you want to change T8(25mm diameter) to T5(12mm) lamps?

Energy efficient lighting systems from Ecotronic lighting Supply kits that enable conversion to T5. These lamps with the electronic ballast use less watts for the same light output and lamps last twice as long without the light degrading over most of the lamps life. - T8 = 36watt T5 = 28watt for the same light output. -good saving on electricity over there life. Cheaper to upgrade existing luminaires than replace them (as well as disposal costs). Just had email from ECOTRONIC with loads of stuff including energy savings and payback periods .(All on their website). - should be able to save my customer (last calcs on another product 34%) - this TUBESAVER product is more efficient so could be getting upto the 60% energy savings they state on their website(gotta get calculator out). Customer wellup for saving cash long term. Also THE CARBON TRUST is offering free loans to SME's over 4 years to improve energy efficiency - which maybe helpful to us contractors when putting cases forward to customers.

See where your coming from now but recently I had to get some T5 14watt 600mm fluorescent lamps for a fitting, only problem was they where twice the price of a T8 18 watt 600mm lamp so what you save on running costs you lose in replacement of lamps, and the control gear is more expensive as well.

I Have explained to customer that payback will be in his case @15months. He says that as he is in his factory for the forseeable future wants to start 'saving' money now. -Even though hes gonna have to pay out @£500+vat plus fitting..... Asked him to get someone who can design a lighting system and potentially save him more money than i can, - but doesnt want to strip out whats there and disrupt workings????? Appreciate your advice - as id rather waste the money over 15 months than pay it out now - especially as he doesnt want to apply for any grants (as he hasnt got the time he says). Just hope these new lamps emit the same light as they promise!!!!
