flourescent tube

Just been to a small job replacing a 5 foot tube , I put the new tube in , switched on mains , their was then a large blue flash from on side of the tube ( no bang ) and the tube had died . Can anybody tell me the reason for this?

The fitting is 2 weeks old , no signs of damage / overheating inside?

dodgy tube? have you checked the connections in the fitting? had a strip light once that was internally wired incorrectly straight from the wholesalers.

Tube not sealed correctly , no gas... But if fitting is 2 weeks old what happened first tube??

I'm not sure I understand from your post, was the flash inside the tube itself or from inside the fitting where the wiring and ballast is located?

Could be the flour in the tube flourescent is one of those things that really grates with me

On a serious note I have had something similar happen many years ago when doing a re-lamping job stripped the fitting down to find the fault and eventually realised that a brand new tube had failed
