Can you supply a latching coil through it's own set of NC contacts? Or would it try to drop out as soon as it tries to pull in.

Could be dirty Magnetic face.\ on the relay, other than that hard to say without being there.

I have cleand the faces of the laminated parts and it has worked in stopping the chattering, as per @Pete999.

Thanks to everyone who responded.
It has been solved.
The relay in question was an Allen Bradley 700 PL400 A1 with an Mechanical attachment. Turns out the mechanical attachment was the problem.
Still curious how the relay is able to pull in before the series NC contact breaks.
