I've been asked to install the most energy efficient lighting I can to a big car dealership, there is a suspended ceiling tiles ceiling about 10m high, currently there is 28 recessed 150w halide fittings

I've been looking at the Recessed PL range, but I need something that will give off the equivalent light output but be more energy efficient...

What would you recommend?

LED recessed panel lights? takes up a full 600x600 tile

Thinking about it now.... 10m. I'm way off the mark.. Could be double that, 20m high possibly.

I don't want to spend a lot of the dealerships money for him not to be happy and say its not bright enough

get a wholesaler to design it most will send someone out and do the business then its there fault if he dont likie! light!

Cheap lighting isn't much good if the cars don't sparkle and nobody buys them so the dealership goes out of business.
Chances are LEDs will be the way forward, but remember their primary task is to make the cars look sumptuous.
Also with 20m high ceilings you don't want to be having to hire in a cherry picker to change the bulbs every week.

TPES, have spent a huge amount of my life 'lighting things' at exhibitions and shows.... If height is an issue then you may need lenses not just fixtures reliant on reflectors. Many options exist beyond what you'll find in your wholesaler, PM me if you'd like.

20M high ceiling? What floor area? It not a car showroom it’s an aircraft hanger! As suggested get someone to design it for you, don’t get your fingers burnt.

A 65ft high ceiling does sound a bit over the top. might be better to check that measurement before people advise on this.

Get the lighting designed is a good answer, they will cover all the little niggles I would not normally bother with!
The most energy efficient lighting available at the moment (except for SON) is T5 triphosphor fluorescents!
You would need about four 35W 1450 tubes to equal the light output of a 150W Halide but may not get the light focus you need and would also not get the visual ambiance needed for a car showroom.

Most LED fittings at the moment are not very good efficiency (but very low wattage) however they will get better and better very soon.
