Hi guys, im gonna start doing the electrical side of domestic solar installs next week.

Ive never been involved with it before. The inverter, meter and isolators are all gonna be on site and all the panels going to be fitted ready for me to do my thing.

I would like some idea`s please off youy guys who do this day in day out. What materials should I keep on the van so I dont get caught short on site. There is alot of traveling involved so I would like to be prepared for any eventually.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

A varity of MCB's and RCBO's to deal with different makes and models of Cu's
silicon to seal any holes drilled thru walls
earth blocks
I had one the other day that required crimping on a 10mm lug with a 6mm hole, or to change the earth block. the change of earth block would be easier

This is what I have needed over the last few weeks:

Solar DC connectors,4mm solar crimps, heat shrink and heat gun, mcb's, garage c/u boards, henley blocks, meter tails, 20mm glands to fit the d.c isolators, 25mm conduit and fitting's normally black incase the cable run is easier to take outside and up. Oval conduit for the d.c cables to pass through when going through the roof tile for mechanical protection.

Thanks guys, how many installs can you get thru in a day bearing in mind im not doing the panels just. Also not testing it.

Depends, normally I do one in a day, two at a push. I also keep swa 3 core, internal gland pack, also crabtree 16a star breaker!

Cheers mate, is there any special cabling and what connectors should i stock, is there any special crimp tools i need other my electrical ones?

Does any of the equipment have to be mounted in specific locations in the dwelling?

Cheers

Yeah, read the dti guide, that will give you a good start, and it would be prudent to invest in a training course to give you a head start.

Thanks dansk, will read. Yep doing the course in the new year mate. This work has fallen in my lap out of the blue, can't turn it down as things are quiet at mo.

there is a tool that pushes the shrouds on for the DC connectors that is pretty usefull to have tho i wouldnt know where to buy it from as i always have these tools supplied to me

Hi Ross,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but have you definitely got this job?

At the moment, there is no solar industry. We are in a 'hiatus' until probably mid February now whilst we wait to see if the government wants to rip my other ------- off.

I've got 10 lined up this week mate!

suspicious ! Sounds dodgy ...I think you might be a little naive. Do you realise what you are doing ? Please prove me wrong but its sounds like these 10 install's might be the first and last with this company. The 12th December deadline is for fully commissioned Solar PV systems....

Sounds like someone has been registering jobs complete before they have been wired to beat the deadline by the sounds of it!

I understand what your saying fella's but the 12th Dec is not the end of solar PV, there's always customers willing to spend money when the sales have ended.....

Technically and possibly legally we cannot sell anymore systems now until the consultation is released advising us of the tariffs sometime mid feb
