Been doing a CU change today. House was rewired in 1999

Picture of inside of Wylex board:

Heat 1.jpg

This was one of several marks that the cables had left - and yes its heat damage to the enclosure..

The cables aren't damaged, and as all the rings were protected by 16A MCB's its not exactly a high current heating up the cable....

Anyone else seen this?

it's an alien calling card from the people of the planet Balaz.

Get your steel wellies and helmets ready.

Not heat damage it has been caused by chemical migration seen it many times.

A reaction has taken place between the plastisizer in the cable sheath and the enclosure of the DB. Have you never seen T&E clips which appear to have melted.

i'll agree with that reaction.a bit like katie price meets daniella westbrook.

I would be tempted to agree with Mr,West,i have seen this many times, where the main clue to it being a chemical reason, and not an electrical one,is the limit to damage in one area.

It is not always confined to cheaper,or spurious parts, and it begs the question, will this lead some bored wag,at Amendment Central,to force the retro fitting of nitrile sheath sheaths....which i am glad to supply by the meter ;)
