Discuss p.v.c mini trunking and singles in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Evening all, can someone please settle a discussion i have been having recently with my supervisor. He says that although he would never do it, technically there is nothing wrong with running singles in pvc mini trunking. To me not only does it sound rough as hell, but I thought that because you can open mini trunking without a tool, then the cable would have to be double insulated. His argument is that you can get into bayonet fittings and whisker boxes without a tool, can you enlighten us, many thanks

your gaffer is right you can use singles in mini trunking. No need for tools on ceiling roses as they are normally over 2.2m high (reg 416.2.4 read the note )Mind you it is possible to gain access to most pvc trunking without key or tool 50x50 included.

Not sure what whisker boxes are though

Yep, no problem with singles as long as they then get a helping of double insulation, they are WISPA boxes and are basically plastic IP rated boxes with push on lids, usually installed externally

There's nothing wrong with PVC singles in PVC trunking. Tool or no tool, the PVC provides as much protection as the PVC sheath of T&E.
