Need help A property I recently done an EICR on has a fault on the downstairs ring main.
The fault is an open circuit on the r1. To shorten the story I managed to believe the fault is under the floor
and may have possible joint boxes. But the client has sold the property and didn't want to spend
money. So all I done was derated the MCB and changed it RCBO. Is this classed as okay or does anyone have a recommendation to what I should of done

for the cost of what you have done, you could have found the fault. always treat the disease, not the symptoms.

if you've been asked to rectify code C1 and code C2 faults, then you should rectify, not bodge. end of.

does anyone one know what code it is and I have left the job in safer comdition
if no one can answer my question politely then don't bother

could say a C3 as it requires improvement. as for polite. now bog off.

Your question originally was 'or does anyone have a recommendation to what I should of done', which Tel has answered in post #6. What's wrong with you?

Can you be certain the circuit is 2.5mm everywhere? Unlikely, given what you've said about the probable jb under the floor, so derating to 20A isn't an option.

i could interpret BS7671 into swahili, but the meaning's the same. the codes are quite clear. imminent danger - potential danger - requires improvement.

Boaky, your attitude ain't going to get you anywhere mate. Calm down a bit. Daz

Is it potentially dangerous
this IS own to interpretation

U sound like you never had these problems before except in a classroom

Is it potentially dangerous
this IS open to interpretation

Yes, and as a competent inspector you should be able to make that call confidently and safe in the knowledge that it is backed by a firm and fundamental understanding of the regulations.

If you'd have come on here saying something like "So today I found such and such whilst doing a periodic inspection, I gave it a code 2 because of this, this and this. Would you guys concur with my decision?" then my response to you would have been entirely different.

nope. you have learnt from this thread already. life is a learning curve with a load of spikes on the way. some spikes boost your brain, and some spike your arse.

Just remember one thing, you touched it last so if it goes pear shaped and ends in a court case it,s you in the dock! I,he personally been involved in one where it did go badly wrong, not my fault I hasten to add,but when the powers that be come looking they bear a striking similarity to a certain well known German division during the war.
