Hi have a situation have wylex 4 module metal clad consumer , RCD, 32mcb and 6 MCB, trouble is main consumer no where near the back of house and all fancy flooring, there is a shower supply 6mm upstairs on a 32 mcb in the consumer , its an old GE series consumer unit and the shower on the 32 is not RCD protected, only the ring is, which they will not be needing anymore, was thinking of connecting this to the swa 6mm in a box then run swa out to shed 70 ft run , any ideas here thanks

I've been doing some research , i have the existing 6mm for shower on the GE series 32A mcb which is upstairs (3 bed terrace) for shower but were not using shower we have a mixer now wall type fitted, i could get an adaptable box and connect the 6mm t&E and the 6mmSWA within and run out 25 metres to shed, i have bought a Wylex NHRS206/63 with a 63A RCD main switch and 1 32a wylex nhxb32 mcb and 1 x 6 amp nhxb06 mcb for lights, only question really would be the Earthing situation and 2 core or 3 core swa

i have rcd protection on the wylex garage cu ? or do i need rcd protection from main cu inside house? the existing cooker gang on 32 MCB is not RCD protected not a split load CU old GE

but 2 RCDs at either end? wylex new one already has rcd 63A 30ma trip? i guess i could change that for just a dp isolator? its at times like this i wish i was Brian Scaddans love child

I'm also curious as to why the RCD at the house end is required purely due to the fact the circuit is being extended?

me too its a shed or garage consumer sold as just that , so thats what got me wondering about RCD at source main CU also! 2 RCDS on same circuit sounds trippy

well strange you should say that I am no guru on regs I look then up if I need to, but posted a similar question on extendiny a ring main in a commercial premises and was slated. over rcd protection so check my regs and phone elecsa and was basically told if extending the ring then I need to rcd it or if I add a new ring rcd the od can remaine as long as I don't alter it.

But this extended ex shower cable is no longer a final circuit as such, it's now a sub-main cable supplying a CU/DB which in turn then supplies final circuits....

anyway sleep time, we may wake up to see the answer from one of our time served heroes! :egypt:

Take a pen and paper up to bed.
When you wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, if yer lass says no, try drawing it all out and everything will be revealed! :-)

i think I'm going to upgrade the outdated CU to a main switch unit CU and RCBOs on every circuit, this will be for my niceic assessment once qualified 17th edition, Part P. ill get to the garage supply at a later date ill just make sure i leave a spare gang for her ;o)

theres no room I've just bought a brand new megger MFT1720 and the price of it I'm sleeping with it :o)) burglars take the tv but leave the megger please!

Does a MFT1720 have a 1000 volt option?
Careful where you leave it now...

You never did answer the question of what earthing system you are working with at the house??

  • Insulation test at 100V, 250V, 500V and 1000V (includes input against live circuits up to 600V)

What's IR test voltage settings got to do the earthing system at the house FFS??

BTW is this your house or a relatives/customers house??

Just when you thought life couldn’t get any worse, yet another shed supply saga starts.

It’s at the stage where a separate shed and garage supply section is needed.

all i want is the right answer, GE series CU, have 2 spare gangs if needed, Wylex NHRS206 CU at shed- how would you time servers connect that to shed 25 meters away, I've seen lots of threads adaptable box outside for termination of SWA (as its plastic) then into GE CU

If one is created can I have an "ignore" function on it!
