Could anyone please run through what is involved in inspecting, testing and certifying smoke alarms in a small domestic set-up. I'm having a full rewire assessed for registration on Monday, and it included three smokes and a heat alarm, all fed from a 'regularly used lighting circuit' (please let's not get into that discussion right now!).

What does the test involve? Triggering with canned smoke, confirm interlinking within 10sec, the alarms actually make a noise. Anything else? Do you just tick boxes on the Cert?

Where am i meant to get a BS5839 E2 Installation cert from (if that's the right one)?

Yes, you've guessed it .... I'm panicking.

Ta very much.

domestic smokes do not need to be activated with canned smoke according to acio as the test buttin is sufficent the you can get the green forms from the niceic the smoke should be on its own dedecated circuit. if you would like i can email you over a green cert
