Hi, has anyone fitted or can recommend a surge protection device for either side of the inverter? I've an install coming up on a property that is in a remote rural location, the customer has told me that he has had electrical equipment damaged twice in the last few years due to lightning. As it's a bungalow which is fairly sheltered I'm presuming the damage was from ground surges rather than direct strikes. I know most inverters incorporate surge protection but when you read the small print on the warranty this is not covered.

I look forward to your comments.

Cheers

Can you give details about the inverter? is it pure sine output? What earthing arrangement is at the premises? Does the inverter supply the whole premises or just certain items?

I have a Furse catelog which we use quite a lot and it outlines type I II III protection devices. Also ABB do a line as well which maybe easier to get and not be as expensive.

I can't load the Furse pdf as it is too big but if you would like a copy then PM me

SMA reccomend type II for most situations, i am installing a SMA 4000 transformerless one and have been investigating any issue's recently.
