Hello,
I live in Costa Rica, which adopted the US electrical code.
On a regular basis, during thunderstorms, I have parks coming out of the outlets and damaged devices, but no breaker ever flipped. I asked an electrician here and he told me everything is fine.
I looked into the wiring and found out, that usually 4 wires run from main-panel to sub-panel, but on my property its only 3. The ground wire, which connects sub-panel busbar to main-panel busbar is missing. Could this lead to a lighting-strike getting trapped in the system and not being able to unload itself?
Is it possible to protect an electrical system from lighting-strike damaged with correct wiring, meaning there has to be a mistake in the wiring or is the only solution surge protection?
