Discuss Temp power shortage or something? in the DIY Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

I have a few electronic items in my room.
When some one switches on the bathroom or hall light (same floor), the LEDs on my monitor go off & back on. Other items such as PC & consoles are not affected.
I have one of those switched extensions, I've noticed if I turn on one of the plugs for my consoles, it does the same thing. (although not for low consuming devices such as chargers)
The extension I can live with (although if you know a possible remedy, please do mention) but the bathroom and hall lights are really annoying because others use them at any time.
There might be other sockets in other rooms causing it too but haven't got around to testing.

So I'm assuming it is a temporary power shortage when some thing else is turned on?
What are these called, possible causes and what needs doing?
Is it a big job to get fixed?

I've put this thread in the DIY forum for you.

It's possibly a poor termination (connection) somewhere on one of the circuits or maybe in the CU. This could cause voltage drops and surges as devices are switched on and off. It's vaguely possibly there's a fault on your monitor but It's a long shot and you'd be able to prove this either way by taking it to a friends house and seeing if it behaves the same or not.

I'd start by getting a competent and experienced electrician to make a visual inspection of the circuits and the CU and run the usual circuit tests there's a very good chance this will show where the problem is.

If you add your location you may find somebody here will "notice" you.
