Sorry if this thread is in the wrong section, I was always led to believe that a TV was class 1 for PAT testing, however the TV has a metal earth pin and I thought appliances with a metal earth pin were class 1

Does it have the class II symbol? That will tell you.

A Class II is normally obvious as it is a flat two core cord. If Class I have you tried a bond to the data/aerial points.

Where would the symbol appear ? Am I right in thinking that all plugs with a metal earth pin are class 1

It will be on the data plate/label for the appliance, the one you look at to get information such as the serial number for your test record before you start testing the appliance.

No, the material that the earth pin is made of does not determine whether an appliance is class 1 or class 2, though it can give an indication in most cases.
