We knew about this scam from old but have always ignored it as we have never had any issues before. Last week though we got a letter from the EA noting that we dont have a licence to carry waste on our vans and if we do not respond within 28 days action will be taken.
A phone call later it seems you need a licence to carry any waste,no matter how small, even the box the light you just fitted came in!...on your van.You should also fill in a form stating where the waste is from and where it is going.....licence costs 150 quid...and vans are being stopped regularly ,and those carrying waste without a licence are getting big on the spot fines........another scam, another nail in the coffin of the ordinary guy trying to do the right thing and earn a living rather than a life on benefits.
Right....got a sack of rubble on the van from todays job,I'm off to chuck it over a hedge rather than risk being caught with it tomorrow.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

I totally agree mate i live on an island surounded by sea 2 tips most of my waste now i stick in the customers wheelie bin except for tubes which i take to get recycled as its classed as hazardous waste ,but here the crunch if i get caught with use flourescent tubes on the van it could be a 25k fine !!! so simple and goods i remove that come from a customers house automatically become mine so im not transfering waste as it belongs to me says it in my contracts , i doubt it would stand up in court mind

These random stop checks happen often of Hayling as there is only one road of the Island, luckily my VW T4 is the caravelle style with windows although tinted and I seem to get let through always.

I always put the old tubes back in the new tubes sleeves, that way I am taking them to the next job ;)

Indeed, i do try and dispose of my rubbish in the clients bin or skip if there is one.

Of course, all the scrap cable i am carrying is going to be reused.

Not directly though of course :D

Not sure what you chaps do with rubbish you can't actaully get rid of....

What I can't get in a skip or leave with customer, usually gets piled up in my garage and every couple of weeks have to fill the car up and take it up the local tip..

They wont let any sign written vans in there unless unloading gargen waste..... is this a common thing ?

YUP very common!!! i use my neighbours bin when possible when she is away! if i see a skip any where im going to start using them!! worth the hassle of parking up and dumping in it! p.s would that be classed as fly tipping or theft of skip space!! lol... as really its not your to use!
