Right ho chaps and chapesses,
Its time rat out the rubbish. What have you used recently that has been complete and utter poo.
Lets start with anything that has Proteus on the label, and there is some completely useless swa cable out there as well. You know the stuff, its like a coiled spring sitting on the drum waiting to snare you at first pull.

good thread, just about to buy a Proteck TP&N board, the wholesaler reckons British manufactured, think not now cheers

I've always found protek stuff to be good. Use the switch fuses now rather than the bigger names as there's load of room for cables and at a good price.

Don't mix up Proteus and Protek,

Just been reading this thread. I have come across many products and materials that at first glance look good but end up being a total waste of money.
One thing I have used recently is 'patress' screws (otherwise known as raised head machine screws) from Thorsman ! ... the heads are total C**P ... the slots are not made deep enough or the head is domed too much.
I have yet to complete a full list of items that I can safely rely on for continued use. I agree with another poster on here that maybe there should be a thread with products that ARE good .

Some items that I use that I find well made and are worth using....

Hager CU's and mcb's (BG look like Hager but have not used any yet)
Fischer rawplugs
Wago connectors
Line connectors/enclosures
Spax screws
Crabtree accessories
Fluke case for my Megger MFT
Prysmian cable

I will endeavour to keep adding to my 'good' list but by the time I get everything I need I will be retired. Oh! and when they stop making things in China ... totally C**P now.

anything made in the p.r.c
junction boxes instead of brass screws they are monkey metal with a sprayed on coating

haha!! ...We used to say exactly the same thing about Japanese goods, when they first started exporting to the West!! How things change!! lol!!

Thing is, when you buy cheap, cheap, what do you really expect from those goods??

How many of you test tw/e before you use it bought a roll the other day with not good readings

I do :smug: ....................... or rather I used to.

I always thought it was better to spend a few minutes making sure that the cable was OK at the start of the job than spend hours ripping it out & replacing it at the end.

Useless cable grips in FCUs that refuse to hold small csa flexes.
Had to fix loads of those with a cable tie around the flex to stop them pulling out.
Usually found in posh hotels...
