It's common practice to use the roof sheets as load bearing, also common practice just to screw to the sheet, (don't over tighten, and NEVER take a screw out once it's been screwed in) just need to make sure if double skin / insulated that the top sheet is actually fixed down. Sometimes they are fixed from beneath to the bottom skin only and the top skin just sits there glued to the bottom by the insulation - putting screws through it can cause it to delaminate and then you've got no uplift resistance -- "Whoa one great big kite!" --

I have seen it, when the owner didn't mind, screwed through both layers (suspended ceiling beneath). However you are now creating a cold bridge and could just have destroyed the buildings 'U' values :(

So if the top skin is fixed down, then unless overheatin could be a problem, I don't see a problem with them in principle.

Cheers Worcester! It's for a stable roof so shouldn't have any thermal issues this time but will bear that in mind for the future.
