Hi everyone, i have just joined the site in the hope some of you may be able to give me some guidance.

I have recently started a Refrigeration apprenticehip based in Manchester and have discovered that i have a strong desire to learn more about the electrical side of things, i realise that this will be covered to an extent by my College course but i would like to be able develop my knowledge prior to and beyond what the course will teach me. To this end i tried searching for a beginners electrical course around the Manchester area that i could do during the evenings but was unable to find anything suitable, i was unable to find anything really other than online courses which, although i am not totally against, i would prefer traditional face to face teaching.

Another option i am considering is that of a CD-ROM or something similar, i have had several interactive Spanish CD-ROMs in the past and have found them to be quite useful.

Like i say whatever i do i am very much a beginner and have no idea where exactly i should start, due to my Apprenticeship i am employed full time and am unable to attend any of the full time electrical courses offered by the colleges during the week days.

If anyone could point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it.

Andy

Finish your apprenticeship, if you don't you will regret it later.

Have you spoken to your employer about your plans? - They might be interested in helping.

Do not go for any fast track course! - Night courses if you must or a second apprenticeship when you have finished the one you are on.

Approach your college for appropriate course - if they recommend fast track run a mile!

yep agreed there is more money in refridgeration and dont worry you will get electrical training with regards to controls and fault finding

I won't leave my Apprenticeship dont worry, i love it. I just would like something to learn a little about electrics to help me on the Apprenticeship, give me a head start, and if possible it wouldn't do any harm to learn a little more beyond that.

Really im looking towards the CD-ROM idea at present so that i can spend an hour or so in the evenings familiarising myself with electrics, i think the electrical part of my Apprenticeship is still some months away and i'd love to be somewhat prepared prior to that and to be able to apply some knowledge during my day to day work now.

Try the trainee's section where you can ask any question you like without fear of ridicule, sarcasm or slagging off. So it's a bit like a site cabin but with your dad there to stick up for you:)
