Probably because the Technical Editor of the Daily Express, is as ill informed regarding the CPS as the rest of the general non technical populous of the UK including the Muppet's in Downing street.

Or maybe if what Pete seems to think their brown envelope wasn't full enough. Was there a brown envelope every time they put the word NICEIC in the article?

As you are an approved contractor and not just doing domestic what you have to ask is is it getting you on lists for tenders and hopefully winning some whereas you would not if not an approved contractor.
Are they doing more than the other schemes, or just resting on their laurels having being around for a lot longer than the others? I can understand the difference with the AC for NIC, and prospective clients lack of knowledge of other schemes, but where this is not important to your work base, I don't see the point.
I was with Elecsa, for only domestic work. Hardly ever asked if I was in a scheme, some people mentioned 'signing things off', and was never ever asked which of the schemes I was in.
So if I did re-join a scheme, it would have to be the cheapest. Good Tech support is useful some times, for a sole trader and reliable on-line certification IMO. Apart from that, they can keep their tee shirts, insurance scams & supposed discount with Trade accounts etc etc.
Link would be good. They had a piece on doing DIY stuff on the May Bank holiday weekend; mentioned using Electrical Safety First to find a local registered electrician.
Beat me to that one.
We've been with NIC for about 30 years and it took some doing to become a member. A bit different today. Then it did give you a chance of work, local authority and schools, mostly.
When it comes to loyalty...never any bonus for it. They've told me I'm still going to have to do a 3 day course for the 18th.
The last bloke who came for the yearly inspection was probably sucking on a dummy when I had my first.
