Hello,

About to price a job in a big factory for installing a full emergency lighting systems.
Just checking what the regs are on covering exits/areas etc?
Is there a certain lux level i need to meet?

Any info helps.

Just dont want to undercut myself.

Thanks. Carl.

Be sure to get it right or you could be out of pocket. There's a book on em light by the iee. Same size as osg. It explains all you need to know. Ps different areas different lux and different run time off the battery.

you will probably need alot more lighting than you first think

and to get the lighting levels right you will need to get manuf data sheets or plug ins
which are only normally available from decent lighting manufacturers (thorn, phillips, crompton etc) and input them into a suitable program such as dialux or relux, unless your getting someone to design the system for you?

what type of system have they spec'd, self contained or central supplied?

before you even start to price this job youll need a decent plan of all the exits, escape routes, fire extinguishers, call points, alarm panels, plant rooms, first aid posts, toilets, high risk areas etc etc

No offence intended but it doesn't seem like you really know that much about what your quoting for, if this is your first EMG lighting install, a factory would be a STEEP learning curve, alot of things to include!

The starting point is a read of BS 5266 The code of practice for emergency lighting.

From your post are you pricing / installing to someone else's design or is the work being let as a design & install job, if you are carrying out the design then it would be worth having a look at the fire risk assessment for the site which should indicate fire exits and escape routes which you can base your design around

If you have a CEF account, they wil do a light survey for FREE

Wouldn't trust any survey CEF did had to repair a CCTV system they did the specification for many years ago loads of kit that wasn't needed and creating loads of ground loops causing video interference
