Hello all

What would be the safest and best way to extend 1.5mm twin and earth lighting cable for a wall mounted mirror with light incorparated the cables are probably 6/7 inches shy of the connection block.

I was thinking crimping or connector blocks but i have heard of good reports of wago stuff ? what would i need in the wago range to extend the lighting cable any advise or links would be appreciated many thanks volt.

Crimp it, they're the most slimline way of extending cables. Wagos are good for all sorts of other things but a little bulky in comparison if space is at a premium. Also you'll probably have to buy a whole box of Wago connectors which is quite dear when you only need to make a couple of connections. Primarily i have the 4 pole connectors and the 3 pole flex connectors which suit me for most purposes.

just get new piece of cable that fits or junction box or wago, depends what room you have to connect them

Thnx for replies guys i think crimping is the way then as runing new cable would be impossible as the whole room is tiled and no access at all and no loft access either.

if the joint is going to be buried in the wall, crimps ( give them a tug after crimping, make sure they're secure,) then heat shrink over all .

what all tools do you need to do this heat shrink????

I prefer cold shrink as no additional tools are required there is also amalgamating tape in a roll similar to pvc tape but stretchy and rubbery which is insulated and pretty robust stuff

For heat shrink you can always use a lighter, there is always a smoker nearby!!!

Or even a hair drier if you get stuck, either will work...

I would crimp it and the heat shrink over the top. I have used wagos before but personally I like the idea of crimping cables beacuse then I can go home and no there is no way those cables are coming loose

if you had to extend for cu, would you heat shrink all cables???

normally crimp and heatshrink in an adaptable box next to cu unless there aare only a couple to extend then i would crimp inside the actual db.

i wouln't bother with heat shrink in a box, as the box itself provides mechanical protection for the joints. ( just my preference ).
