Does the Fronius IG-TL transformer-less inverter have seperated voltage? Im currently fitting one in a garage which has a tin roof, im going to earth the roof to a new spike as the cables pass through it with glands but apparently i need to earth all the frames and rails if the inverter (being transformer-less) doesn't separate the voltage even if the panels are class 2. is this right?

According to the dti guide, you should earth your system when one of the following is not met.

-Class II Panels
-Class II cables, junction boxes, connectors
-Transformer-based inverter

The TL inverter does not have galvanic isolation between AC - DC.

On the other hand, inverter's manufacturers say that the TL inverters control any DC injection, or other power quality issues by using DC sensitive RCMUs and surge arrestors. Moreover, TL inverters have passed all the mandatory safety tests defined by VDE 0126, G83.

It's hoped that next updated dti guide will be more detailed in terms of TL inverters.

TL inverters.... Spike for TNCS, otherwise back to MET. 10mm2 G/y. For now at least.Enjoy!

Thats the reason i was confused as i remembered the 3 conditions for earthing but their manual says 'these inverters are designed exclusively for class 2 panels and they should never be earthed'. i phoned a fronius helpline and they told me that it must be earthed (contradicting their manual). Then i spoke to someone for another PV installation company who has just been on the fronius 3 day inverter course and he told me that they said the panels never need to be earthed (contradicting the helpline) Im very confused.

I asked the same question to all my suppliers and none were able to give a final answer...

what's the danger of earthing if you don't need to? if you know what mean.
is just the extra cost and time?

Been told its a load of old rubbish by my instructor thats why DTI are altering it, whats happens if the cable breaks away from spike ??? At least on the roof its out of reach

there's a difference between earthing the fronius itself and earthing the panel framing itself. Maybe that's why there's a difference in the manual vs helpline. Don't earth the inverter; earth the rails.

I'd agree with the comment that if it's TL and TNCS it's an earth spike, TNS and it's MET. But I'll be looking at the coin----- too now.

i dont see why we need to spike tncs systems and not TNS systems, i would bet nearly all tns systems are pme on the road.
