Hello I’m a non electrician home owner seeking professional advice on a quote I received for installation of a Tesla home wall charger in Madison, WI. The 200 amp electrical panel is from 1968 and has only only one available slot and the charger requires two. The quote seems high, what do you think?

Thanks for your advice!
John Lynch

When I do an upgrade from 100 amp to 200 amp I charge $ 1000.00 for labor and the materials are usually $ 1500.00 which equals $ 2500.00 and don’t forget that you have to install a surge protection device or what we call SPD’s and it needs to be installed the first slot in the panel on top next to the main breaker. They make slim line breakers now and I’m sure you can free up some space in your existing panel and not have to up grade your panel
